Unveiling Hyundai EON in India, H W Park, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motors India Limited said, “Hyundai is committed to offer products with advanced technology to the Indian market. “Hyundai understands the needs of the Indian customer, successful products as the Santro, i10, i20 and the new Fluidic Verna are perfect examples”, he further added.
"EON, with its fluidic styling and contemporary engineering, will directly hit the dated Alto and affect Maruti's fortunes," said Deepesh Rathore, Managing Director of IHS Automotive India. Added a Delhi-based CEO of an automotive company "It's an ideal buy for first time car buyers who account for 25% of the 2-million new cars sold in India," However, Maruti Suzuki, which generates a quarter of its India sales from the Alto, was unfazed by the prospect of a new challenger on its turf.
“Price positioning is a letdown. We expected it be cheaper by at least Rs. 20, 000,” said a dealer on condition of anonymity at the car’s launch on Thursday. “The car looks good in terms of design and quality, but it will be difficult to pitch the car at this price against the competition.”
A company official said it didn’t intend to compete on price. “We are not fighting on the price front,” said Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing and Sales, Hyundai Motor India Limited. “The idea is to offer a good value proposition car in the segment that has some boxy looking cars. We aim to reach younger customers and those who are planning to make their first purchase”, he added.
Hyundai EON Competitor Analysis
Hyundai EON in India competes with Chevrolet Spark, Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Maruti Suzuki Alto, Tata Indica e V2, and Honda Brio. The EON is more affordable than most of its competitors and is sure to succeed in the low priced segment.
Chevrolet Spark is more powerful than Hyundai EON, with the engine churning out more torque than the latter.
